Add the desire to create and you really have your hands full. It’s not enough to produce beautiful work—you need to know how to market it, price it and budget it. Strong business skills are a must for survival in this competitive market. Join AIGA Santa Barbara for a sneak peek into how some accomplished creatives have navigated these complicated waters. Seen from several perspectives (a large NYC agency, an illustrator/graphic/web designer, a boutique branding firm, a photographer/stock image provider), the discussion of how to run a business, make money and still have fun will be enlightening. So, do something creative with your time—join us May 14th at Photo Studio 240 and listen in. It will be informative, engaging and lots of fun!
Brooks Institute, Warren King, and Brooks’ Alumni Association are proud to announce a new fundraiser to support the annual Warren King Scholarship. Warren King established, at Reseda High, one of most successful high school photography programs in the country. He has mentored over 16,000 students of photography during the last 50 years and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. As many of Warren King’s students have gone on to study at Brooks Institute, we are proud to be in partnership with Warren King and the Brooks Alumni Association to bring this opportunity to high school photography students. In brief, the scholarship targets students who excel in and demonstrate a passion for photography, students who are academically sound, and those in financial need who would benefit greatly from this opportunity. The scholarship is able to continue with the support from donors and we cannot do this without your help. To say thank you for your donation, Warren King has published a new book titled, “Warren King’s Own Photographers’ Hall Of Fame” and a copy will be sent to donors who contribute a minimum of $50.

All donations will be used to help finance the Warren King Scholarship through the Career Education Scholarship Fund at Brooks Institute, where $5,000 is awarded annually to two young deserving students just out of high school and entering Brooks Institute. The scholarship is in its 11th year.

Donations can be received in the following manners:

Donate $50 and receive a copy of “Warren King’s Own Photographers’ Hall Of Fame.” Please send a check made payable to H. Warren King then mail it to H. Warren King 24579 Lola Lane, Santa Clarita CA 91321.

In addition, you can support the Warren King Scholarship by making a donation of any amount that will go directly to the scholarship. Please send a check made payable to CESF and mail it to Brooks Alumni Association, 27 E. Cota Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Special thanks to Paul Moshay who devoted many hours of his valuable time in assisting Warren with the production of this book. Without Paul’s help and expertise, it would have never been completed.

Sincerely,

Warren King & Brooks Institute Alumni Association

On March 17 2012, The Brooks Institute NPPA student chapter will be holding a free photo workshop at the Brooks Institute campus in Ventura. Starting at 8:00am participants will meet in the screening room on the Ventura campus and be given a secret one word theme. Then participants will have 4 hours to shoot and edit after which they will all share their work. All digital mediums are welcome (iPhones included), considering that there is a reasonable turn around rate.
